Philosophy: Create a healthy, safe, and enjoyable environment where students can succeed. We believe that the goal of physical education is to get students involved in and excited about being active, while teaching them the proper techniques and skills  needed to perform a wide variety of activities.

No Cell Phones Allowed.

Goals: 1) Expose students to a wide variety of activities that they can do throughout their lives that will help them stay or become physically healthy. 2) Students will discover at least one activity that they find enjoyable to remain active throughout life. 3) Develop an understanding of the importance of physical education and physical activity. 4) Have fun!!!

Expectations: 1) Show the teacher and each other respect. 2) Display a positive attitude. 3) Show good sportsmanship. 4) Be on time and properly dressed for activity. 5) Participate to the best of one's ability 6) Have fun!

Unacceptable Behavior will not be tolerated! This includes the following: pushing, shoving, biting, kicking, swearing, grumbling, sassing, whining, name calling, cheating, or destruction of property or equipment. Any infraction of the above is automatically a point deduction for the day.

Each student will be given a number based on the following criteria.

3 points = **dressed appropriately (changed from school clothes into shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes). **superior participation/plays hard/ works up a sweat **positive attitude ad cooperative.

2 points = **is wearing clothing conducive for activity, but did not change from school attire **average participation enthusiasm (plays because it's required) **pleasant attitude and cooperative.

1 point = **inappropriate attire for activity (flip flops, work boots, shirts or shorts not appropriate **lack of participation (wall hugger, stands around) **negative attitude and whines.

0 points = **absent and time not made up **Every student is given 3 freebies for any absence. An X will be put in the grade book. **After 3 x's an absence will show  a 0 UNTIL the student makes up 30 minutes of missed class time.  The time made up will  be worth half credit and must be done AT SCHOOL WITH A TEACHER. No more independent, at home, health club memberships with parents verification.

 This one  semester elective course is designed for athletes. This course covers basic weight training, flexibility, speed development, plyometrics, neutron and general conditioning activities. Students will earn 1 Physical Education credit with successful completion of this course.

Requirements and Expectations: *BE ON TIME!  You will get two minutes after the second bell rings to be dressed and in the weight room on the DOTS. First tardy-warning no penalty, after that you will lose 1 pt for your daily participation grade. *T-shirts, athletic shorts and a good pair of athletic style or running/tennis shoes. Must be tied. * Not dressed or not participating in class - 0 points . * Absent - 0 points. * Sick/Not participating - 0 points.

Iowa Standards in Physical Education Addressed in this course.

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. 

Standard 2: Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 3: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in a physical activity setting.

Schedule:

Week 1 - Lifting Technique, Safety, Spotting, Warm-up, Performance testing, Record keeping.

Week 2 - Goal setting and Performance Test-out.

Week 3-8 - Core lifts, Auxiliary Lifts, Running Form, Speed and Agility.

Week 5 -Plyometrics and Medicine Ball Drills

Week 6 - Muscle Identification for muscles used in team sports.

Week 7 - Nutrition for Athletes.

Week 8 - Performance Testing (lifts, speed, agility)

Week 9 - Rest Week (Yoga, Mental Training, Leadership)
